Pregnancy and conception
You may think that pregnancy and conception are pretty basic subjects and that it is pretty obvious how it all works, but if you have been trying to get pregnant for a few months without success then you may wish to re-examine that attitude. You need to get as much information on the subject as possible to make sure that you are giving yourself the absolute best chance of becoming pregnant each month.
Under normal circumstances conception will occur approximately 2 weeks after the first day of the menstrual cycle. This however is not written in stone. Apart from being slightly different for each person there are many factors which can lead to irregularity in the female cycle and if not kept in check will easily throw any planning out of sync.
To become pregnant you need to simply increase your chances of becoming pregnant. To do this there are certain points to note for both the man and the woman. As a general rule, for both the man and the woman it is a very good idea to avoid as many toxines as possible and to maintain as healthier diet as is possible. This reduction of stress in both partners also plays an important part in the preparation of the two bodies in order to have a successful conception.
Important amongst the toxines that should be eliminates is caffeine. This should be kept down to an absolute minimum for both man and woman. The consumption of alcohol can also have detrimental effects when it comes to conception so this should be cut out as soon as possible whilst you are trying for a baby. Smoking for the woman goes without saying because during the first few days of pregnancy (the time before most people even realize they are pregnant) is the time when the fetus is most at risk from the effects of the mother smoking, therefore the woman should stop smoking before trying to become pregnant. A lesser known fact is that smoking can seriously damage and lower the quality of the sperm production in the man and therefore decrease the chances of becoming pregnant. So Both partners should really quit smoking well before trying to become pregnant. Another toxine that has a definite influence on the chances of conceiving is all types of recreational drugs including marijuana in its natural herbal form.
As far as the woman goes, her age is particularly important. Up until recently it was a fairly accepted fact that women over 40 did not get pregnant but within the last decade or so, partially due to medical advances, more and more women are getting pregnant well into their late 40s. Though the age limit is not so restricting as it used to be, the passing of time will definitely effect your chances of getting pregnant fast. Fortunately, men are not affected by age when it comes to fertility and can become fathers well into their 60s and beyond.
Interestingly, there are a wide range of herbs and spices that are known to cause problems to women who are trying to get pregnant. These should all be avoided where ever possible when you are trying to conceive. Some of them should also be avoided during pregnancy too. They are;
- Cinnamon
- Safflower or American Saffron
- Castor Oil Plant
- Christmas Rose
- Lavender
- Flaxseed
- Periwinkle
- Rhubarb
- St John’s Wart
- Fennel
- Thyme
For the man there are also a few things that will affect the quality of his sperm and thus influence the chances of getting pregnant. The wearing of tight pants for example in no myth and does in fact restrict the production of sperm making it all that more difficult to conceive. Try to wear loose boxers and loose pants during the time when you are trying fo a baby. Frequent ejaculation will also affect the chances of conception as this will lower the sperm count drastically meaning that less sperm will be expelled each time. The best method when it comes to conceiving is for the man to not ejaculate at least 3 days before the conception day.
