When Is The Best Time to Get Pregnant
To help you understand a little more about the process of getting pregnant and thus increase your chances of conception here is a breakdown of the female monthly cycle.
The best time to get pregnant is during the time of ovulation. At the time of ovulation an egg is released from the ovary and enters the fallopian tube and is then able to be fertilized. At this time the uterine lining also thickens to prepare for a fertilized egg. If an egg is not fertilized the lining is shed and the result is your period.
To know when the best time to get pregnant is it is best to figure out when you will be ovulating, because these will be the best days to conceive. A common method to figure out when you are ovulating is to count days. If you have an average 28 days cycle then around the 14th day of your cycle is when you will be ovulating; so around this day would be the best time to conceive. To figure out when the this is you can either start at the beginning of your cycle (day you start period) and count forward or figure out when your next period is and count backwards 12-16 days. To use this method you must know how long your cycle lasts and must have relatively regular cycles.
To figure out when you will be ovulating you can also pay attention to the changes that occur within your body. When the cervical mucus becomes clear, slippery, and stretchy is the best time to get pregnant. This protects and nourishes the sperm on the way into the fallopian tubes. A rise in body temperature can also predict when you are ovulating although it can not pin point it normally the rise will be anywhere from 0.5-1.6 degrees. You won’t be able to feel it but you can detect it by using a basal thermometer. Lower abdominal pain or discomfort can also indicate ovulation. Around 1/5 of women can actually feel the activity in their ovaries, which can be anywhere from slight movement to pain and discomfort. It can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.
You can also purchase an ovulation prediction test to figure out when you are ovulating which would probably be the most accurate way to predict the best time to have sex. Once you know when you will be ovulating it is best to have sex 1-2 days before ovulation and then again on the day of ovulation. Doing this will give you a better chance of becoming pregnant!
